Local Compost in Houston
Answer
OnFarmCompost keeps compost as local as it gets: food waste from Houston-area businesses is sheet-composted directly on local farms, and the finished compost stays on the land it feeds — we don't bag or sell it. Weekly business pickup runs across Harris County and Fort Bend County at $10 per barrel. Farmers can have compost made on their own land.
Keeping compost local in Houston
OnFarmCompost is a Houston-area composting company, and keeping the loop local is the whole point. The food waste we collect from businesses across Harris County and Fort Bend County goes directly to local farms and is sheet-composted on the land it will feed — not trucked to a distant facility, not bagged and resold.
Compost that stays where it’s made
There’s no compost yard in our model. Food waste is spread and composted right on partner farms, and legally the finished compost never leaves that land. If you’re looking to buy local compost by the bag, that’s not us — but if you want your business’s food waste to become local farm soil, that’s exactly us.
How local pickup works
Businesses — restaurants, offices, food producers — get 55-gallon food-grade drums with gasket-sealed lids, placed outside near the dumpster. Pickup runs weekly: we haul the full drums, weigh them, and leave clean ones, and commercial accounts get monthly ESG-ready diversion reporting.
What we accept
All food scraps — fruit, vegetables, meat, bones, dairy, plate scrapings — plus coffee grounds, eggshells, and small amounts of pan grease. We keep out fryer oil (rendering services already collect it), paper of any kind including napkins and coffee filters, and plastics of any kind, including anything labeled “compostable.”
Where we pick up
We serve Harris County and Fort Bend County. Because we’re local, we can confirm your route day and respond quickly.
For farmers: compost made on your land
The one way to get our compost is to be the farm it’s made on. We deliver food waste and animal manure, consult on compost and soil, or run full-service sheet composting on your property start to finish. Much of south Texas soil lacks the organic matter to establish healthy biology, and sheet composting jump-starts it — at a cost per yard well below buying from a compost yard, because there’s no yard, no heavy equipment, and no bagging step.
Keeping the loop in this region
Because we’re local, food waste from Houston-area kitchens doesn’t get trucked across the state. It’s composted right here, on farms in this region that put it to work — instead of producing landfill methane.

As local as it gets. We're a Houston-area company, and the food waste we collect is sheet-composted directly on local farms. The finished compost legally never leaves the farm it's made on.
Can I buy or pick up finished compost from you?
No. We don't bag, sell, or give away compost — it stays on the partner farms where it's made. If you're a farmer, though, we can make compost on your land from start to finish.
