Why Houston humidity makes sealed drums non-negotiable
Houston's subtropical heat and August humidity turn open food-waste bins into anaerobic, odor-producing liabilities in under 24 hours. Health-department complaints, fruit-fly infestations, and loading-dock smells cost restaurants customers and goodwill.
Each OnFarmCompost drum has a gasket-sealed lid that locks decomposition gases in and pests out. In 90°F+ heat, that seal is the difference between a clean kitchen and a health-code violation.

FAQ
Do you service restaurants in downtown Houston, the Heights, and Montrose?
Yes. We route commercial pickup across Houston's core neighborhoods including the Heights, Montrose, Midtown, East Downtown, and the Energy Corridor, plus Richmond and surrounding areas. If your kitchen produces food scraps, coffee grounds, or prep waste, we can usually add you to an existing route. Call +1 713-822-3398 to confirm.
How do sealed drums stop odors better than open bins?
Each drum has a gasket-sealed lid that locks out fruit flies and locks in decomposition gases. Unlike open containers, the drum does not vent into your walk-in, loading dock, or alley. In Houston's 90°F+ summer, that seal is the difference between neutral and rancid.
What materials can our kitchen put in the drum?
Fruit and vegetable trimmings, grains, bread, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, eggshells, and soiled uncoated paper like napkins and parchment. We do not accept plastics, grease, or liquids.
What does the ESG report include?
A monthly summary of total weight diverted, estimated landfill methane avoided, and contamination rate. The report is formatted so your sustainability lead can paste it directly into ESG questionnaires, B Corp recertification, or investor updates without extra cleaning.
How often is the drum swapped?
Most Houston restaurants need weekly swaps; offices and light producers often use biweekly. We adjust frequency based on your volume and Health Department requirements, and we swap on a set schedule so your staff never has to guess when pickup happens.
